History of Trinity Presbyterian Church
"Trinity has been a positive and supportive part of my family's life for over forty years. My three children were raised and nurtured at Trinity and it was their only church home."
In 1958, the Winston Salem Presbytery began a development fund to start four Presbyterian churches in Winston Salem. The site chosen for one of these was a wooded lot on Bolton Street. A ground-breaking ceremony was held at the Bolton street site on July 12, 1959. While construction was under way, services were held in the basement of a Laundromat on the corner of Hawthorne Road and Magnolia St. Winston Salem Presbytery chartered Trinity Church on November 15, 1959, with 74 members representing 35 families. Four of the charter members are still active at Trinity.
We dearly love our location here on Bolton Street! But it has had its challenges over the years. Despite tornadoes and water damage and honey bees and termites and the construction of ramps for Silas Creek Parkway and even an offer to buy the property for development, our mission to be a vital church, open to all people, is a mission that grows stronger each passing day.
Originally founded to serve the southwest area of Winston Salem, our members now live in Forsyth, Davie, and Yadkin counties. Presbyterian in theology, heritage and government, we are ecumenical in spirit. We are an "open-minded" church. We take the Bible seriously without necessarily taking it literally. We believe the Bible asks us to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. Accordingly, we welcome and affirm people of all genders, race, sexual orientation, and political viewpoints. We are an "open-hearted" church, seeking to serve the community beyond our doors. We extend our mission through the Presbyterian Church (USA) to our region, state, nation and the world ( http://www.pcusa.org/worldmission/). In cooperation with the churches of Winston Salem, we participate in feeding the hungry, giving shelter to the homeless, and lifting up the downtrodden ( http://trinitypresbyterianchurch.org/community.php). We are dedicated to proclaiming the good news of the gospel to one another and to the world. We have open hearts, open minds, open doors-- come and join us!!
